About Us
GapX is a movement with a simple goal: to get more working women across Africa into leadership positions.
We are driving gender inclusion across the career funnel and supporting working women throughout their careers to reduce drop-off, thereby building a pipeline of confident women who are empowered and positioned for all levels of leadership.
We support women in their career progression by bridging these four gaps: the support gap, knowledge gap, resources gap and opportunities gap.
Our vision: a gender-inclusive world, more stable families, stronger societies, greater economic prosperity, and generational wealth for all.
Why Now?
A few challenges to ponder on:
-
SHRINKING PIPELINES: For many reasons, women tend to drop off midway through their careers, resulting in fewer women in the pipeline for senior management positions.
-
INCLUSION CHALLENGES: Most interventions focus on the bottom of the pyramid, alienating working women across corporate organisations.
-
LIMITED RESOURCES AND ACCESS: Working women have limited access to the right support system, knowledge, networks, and resources they need for their journey to leadership.
-
BIASES & STEREOTYPES: Cultural stereotypes and unconscious biases exist in the workplace and limit women from taking control of their careers.
-
NO CLEAR GOALS: There are few goals regarding gender inclusion in the workplace across many African countries
We are committed to improving the present and future of work for women, because:
-
Companies with a higher percentage of female executives tend to be more profitable - Peterson Institute for International Economics.
- Gender diversity and inclusion is necessary for the growth of businesses and the communities they operate in.
- According to the McKinsey, Delivering Through Diversity, Jan ’18, Exec-level gender diverse companies are 21% more likely to experience above-average profitability.
-
There is a dearth of women in leadership positions across the continent.
